About Rod Wiemer
Rod W. Wiemer was born in Chicago, Illinois. He graduated from Okmulgee High School as Valedictorian in 1983. Mr. Wiemer subsequently attended the University of Tulsa where he was Intramural Athlete of the year in 1986, President of Pi Kappa Alpha Fraternity and President of the Interfraternity Council. He earned a Bachelor of Science in Business Administration in 1987 and his Juris Doctorate with Honors in 1990.
Mr. Wiemer has engaged in the private practice of law in Okmulgee for the past 30 years. He currently serves as General Counsel to Principal Chief David Hill and Second Chief Del Beaver of the Muscogee (Creek) Nation. Mr. Wiemer formerly served as General Counsel to Principal Chief A. D. Ellis of the Muscogee (Creek) Nation for 8 years and served as Special Prosecutor of the Muscogee (Creek) Nation for 2 years prosecuting over 50 bribery, embezzlement and public corruption cases. Rod is the former President of the Okmulgee County Bar Association (2000) and Muscogee (Creek) Nation Bar Association (2007-08). Mr. Wiemer is also a certified mediator.
Mr. Wiemer has held numerous state and local leadership positions. He is the past President and current member of the Okmulgee Public School Board having served on the Board for the past 10 years. Rod was the Co-Chair of the Okmulgee Pecan Festival Committee in 2016 that re-established the festival after an over 15 year hiatus. He also served as Master of Ceremonies for Okmulgee Main Street’s Big Brain Trivia Night in 2015 -16. Rod served as the President of the Creek Council House Museum Board for four years and was a founding Board member of the Okmulgee Education Foundation. Mr. Wiemer was a certified personal trainer who volunteered at the YMCA for five years and was awarded both national and local volunteerism awards. He presently serves on the Board of Troy Aikman’s Henryetta Live Foundation.
Rod Wiemer was appointed to the Oklahoma Indigent Defense System Board by Governor David Walters in 1993 and was reappointed by Governor Frank Keating in 1998. In 2003 and 2008, Governor Brad Henry appointed Mr. Wiemer as the Chairman of the Oklahoma Indigent Defense System Board. The agency provides public defenders in 75 Oklahoma counties. He served on the OIDS Board for 20 years.
Rod is well known in Okmulgee County as a youth baseball coach and is an Accredited Interscholastic Coach with the National Federation of High School Associations. He has coached high school baseball for 7 years and currently serves as the Bench Coach and Pitching Coach of the Okmulgee High School Baseball team. Mr. Wiemer has coached multiple youth baseball teams from T-Ball to 18U in Okmulgee and Morris and was a long time Board member of the Okmulgee County Baseball & Softball Association.
Mr. Wiemer and his wife, Penelope, and son Samuel reside in Okmulgee, Oklahoma.
